Why is salon color different from box color?
A box of color is made to work on as many people as possible. It comes in one shade, mixed one way, and it usually goes on the same way from root to end. Salon color starts with your hair. Esther mixes the formula for your skin, eyes and hair, decides where it goes and where it doesn't, and adjusts for gray, past color and the condition of your hair.
There is also what you can't see in the bathroom mirror. Repeating box color over the same ends can build up darker and uneven over time. A colorist puts new color where it is needed, often at the roots, and handles the ends more gently.
- A shade mixed for you, not one shade for everyone
- A free consultation and an honest plan before anything is mixed
- Color placed where your hair needs it, including the back you can't see
- A glaze finish for mirror shine
What if you have been coloring at home?
Lots of women color at home, and there is no judgment here. Tell Esther which shade you used, how often and for how long. That history matters, because box color stays in the hair until it grows out or is cut off.
Sometimes moving to salon color is simple. If the color has built up or turned brassy, it may need corrective color, which is $125/hr and can take more than one visit. Esther will tell you which it is before you commit.
How much does professional color cost with Esther?
On the 2026 menu, L'Oréal INOA ammonia-free color is $125, single process is $100 and double process is $180. Partial hi/lo lights start at $175+, full hi/lo lights at $250+, and balayage at $275+. A glaze with color adds $30.
Length, thickness and hair history change the final price. The free consultation gives you the exact quote, and you can text Esther at 561-631-6462 to set one up.
Questions clients ask
What is the difference between L'Oréal Professional and L'Oréal Professionnel?
L'Oréal Professionnel is the French name of L'Oréal's professional salon brand. Esther's title is written in English: L'Oréal Professional Master Stylist & Colorist. Either way, it is about professional salon color, which is different from the boxed color sold in stores.
Is salon color better than box color?
Salon color is mixed for you and applied by someone who can see your whole head, including the back. That usually means a more natural shade, more even results and fewer surprises. Esther explains the plan and the price at a free consultation before anything is mixed.
What should I bring to my first color appointment?
Bring photos of shades you love and any you don't, and be ready to share your hair's history: box color, lightener, keratin or other treatments. You can text Esther a daylight photo beforehand. There are more ideas in how to prepare for a color appointment.
